Knightcote Lifeboat Day 10th May 2026
Members represented the Club at Knightcote Lifeboat Day 10th May 2026.
It was very cold when they arrived but thankfully around mid day the clouds gave way to a pleasant afternoon. As usual the standard of models was very high. Probably not so many models as previous years never the less a good day out.
Well covered by organisers gazebo Simon F, Danny T, Edward T all smiles.

The lake at Broomy Hill will be open from 10.00 a.m. on each day.

GDMBC have been asked to put on a static stand and also sessions on the lake for boat sailing. If you would like attend can you lplease let a Committee member know as we need at least 8 members to put on a show and man the stand. We understand that many of you may be away so anyone who has not been to this event is encouraged to attend

We understand that many of you may be away so anyone who has not been to this event is encouraged to attend as its a good day out and very relaxed atmosphere Doors are open from 10:00 to 16:00 at the Sharpness Lifeboat Station (GL13 9UB), just a short drive down the A38 from Quedgeley. Entry is free and the event features boat rides, rescue demonstrations, and activities to celebrate 40 years of lifesaving.

The warm weather has arrived and so everything is growing - including the weed in the basin. More specifically the recent hot spell has lent to a surge in weed growth and as a result and so to keep the basin serviceable for boating and in particular the Fun Day on 7th June, it will be necessary to have a weeding session. More specifically the recent hot spell has lent to a surge in weed growth and as a result and so to keep the basin serviceable for boating and in particular the Fun Day on 7th June, it will be necessary to have a weeding session. It is planned that this should take place on Monday 1st June ie this coming Monday from 14.00 hrs. If you help can with this session please get in touch with a member of the Committee. As compensation for your help, tea/ coffee, biscuits - and possibly sausage rolls will be on offer!

The club is going to run the Fun Day at Over on the 7 June. Hopefully the weather forcast will be better for us this day. The motor boat trophy will not be run on this day so there will be a fun course for powered boats in the morning and free sailing in the afternoon. Weed permitting sailing of yacht's can take place at the bridge end o

GDMBC have been asked to put on a static stand and also sessions on the lake for boat sailing. If you would like attend can you lplease let a Committee member know as we need at least 8 members to put on a show and man the stand. We understand that many of you may be away so anyone who has not been to this event is encouraged to attend as its a good day out and very relaxed atmosphere Doors are open from 10:00 to 16:00 at the Sharpness Lifeboat Station (GL13 9UB), just a short drive down the A38 from Quedgeley. Entry is free and the event features boat rides, rescue demonstrations, and activities to celebrate 40 years of lifesaving.
Weeding - Over - Monday 1st June
The warm weather has arrived and so everything is growing - including the weed in the basin. More specifically the recent hot spell has lent to a surge in weed growth and as a result and so to keep the basin serviceable for boating and in particular the Fun Day on 7th June, it will be necessary to have a weeding session. It is planned that this should take place on Monday 1st June ie this coming Monday from 14.00 hrs. If you help can with this session please get in touch with a member of the Committee. As compensation for your help, tea/ coffee, biscuits - and possibly sausage rolls will be on offer!
Castle Coombe Steam Rally
Members represented the Club on our Stand at the Castle Coombe Steam Rally on the 16th & 17th May 2026 and received great feedback from the organisers: “Bringing the delights of the docks, waterways and oceans to a landlocked race circuit, we would like to thank members of the @Gloucester & District model boat club, as well as S. Bennett & S. Kearsley. These superb models received plenty of interest (especially from our models section leader) with positive feedback all-round. Club Fun Day 07 June 2026
The club is going to run the Fun Day at Over on the 7 June. Hopefully the weather forcast will be better for us this day. The motor boat trophy will not be run on this day so there will be a fun course for powered boats in the morning and free sailing in the afternoon. Weed permitting sailing of yacht's can take place at the bridge end of the canal.
Bring your own food and drinks and with luck and Barbara 's recovery there will be cakes.

Due to the weather conditions, the planned Motor Boat Trophy at Over Basin on the 03 May 2026 has been postponed. We will provide updates on the new dates soon, along with information about other GDMBC events, including the popular Castle Coombe Steam Rally.

HSME Model Boat Regatta - Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August 2026.
The Hereford Club have invited members to their event in August
We are holding the annual model boat regatta again this year at HSME on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August 2026.
The lake at Broomy Hill will be open from 10.00 a.m. on each day.
Plenty of points too to charge batteries etc. Just bring a chair - and a boat! On the Saturday it is more than likely we will have some HSME members and their families will be running some trains and you are most welcome to join in with them too. No charge for joining us and we hope to see you and any of your colleagues and their families. We will have our cafe open and they will be selling tea, coffee, sandwiches and snacks etc. Toilet facilities are also available.
